I have been editing a fairly large document. It was OCR'd from a PDF and lots of the formatting was screwed up.

I undertook a number of actions in terms of Find and Replace. This involved getting rid of unnecessary paragraph marks, scrapping the section breaks, getting rid of column breaks (after making the document a single column) and removing all images (using a macro).

I'm left with some annoying symbols that are greyed-out, that I can edit like normal text. But it is quite annoying as I can't see why it would be there.

Anyone know what is going on?
