Office 2021: Spaces between paragraphs and lines,

1. In the first screenshot, I observed that the space between the two paragraphs is not equal to the space between lines, despite having a "12 pt before" spacing and double line spacing.
2. In the second\third screenshots, I observed that the space between the two paragraphs is greater than the largest value of the before/after spacing settings.

In your example document "Don't use HTML auto paragraph spacing" is turned on. This means before and after spacings do not overlap but are added together.

Additionally, the font you are using is Times New Roman at 12pt with double line spacing. The standard single line spacing for Times New Roman is 120% of the font height, so your line spacing is approximately 29pts. This additional spacing is added below the line, further increasing the space between your paragraphs.

The issue of spacing still persists concerning the space between paragraphs before and after tables. For instance, in the screenshot below, although the space is set to 12 points for the paragraph preceding the table and the same for the paragraph following it, the actual space between the table and the paragraphs above and below does not appear to be the same.


What could be causing this issue?

Clearly you didn't read the salient part of my explanation carefully enough.

Many thanks for the prompt help. I understand the additional space you’ve explained so well. My question here is why the space above the table is not equal to the space below it. They are expected to be the same, given that the paragraph styles above and below the table are identical.
