I want to insert Table of Contents in Word like this:


1. Introduction........................1-10
2. Background..........................11-21


and so on...


Is it possible ?

Word does not support adding page number intervals in a table of contents.

You'd have to "intervene" manually in the TOC creation and updating.

I'm afraid that you can't fix this with a field code switch.

The manual way to do it would involve adding bookmarks manually so that you can reference text and page numbers. It would be time-consuming and any (larger) edits made in the document would require that you recreate some of those bookmarks.

At least in theory, it can be done with a macro.

There is no way you can generate an automatic table of contents in Word that shows a page range rather than simply the beginning page.


What you can do is wait until you have finished the document and manually add the last page to each range.

Why is it necessary for the ToC to show intervals?

If the ToC shows that Section 1 Begins on page 1 and Section 2 begins on page 11, isn't it clear the section 1 spans pages 1-10 (and possibly page 11)?
