Default Trying to rid my document of weird darkened "o"s

I've been working on a very large document (around 3,000 pages), which was OCR'd using Adobe from scanned documents.

Occasionally there are some odd characters that get thrown in to the mix.

One of them can be seen in the attached image. I is like a large full stop that hovers off the base of the line it is on.

I tried copying it, pasting it into a Find/Replace box (Control-H) and replacing it with nothing, but when I do that it deletes every single letter 'o' in the document.

It isn't too much effort to manually delete them, but there are so many that a better way would be useful.

Does anyone have any ideas?
