Very well written article.
Hopefully it still applies to Word 2019.
(Will test it later)

Yes. It applies to every version of Word from 2007 on. Some controls may be in different places and the current Layout tab was earlier called the Page Layout tab.

Default Awesome

Thanks for the rapid reply.
After much research I learned how to
insert page breaks and begin page numbering on a different page.
Problemm is,
even though I unlinked the sections, the initial section
the one that I wished not to be numbered,
did have some.
When I deleted them, the following section's numbers vanished
I ht reverse (Ctrl+Z) and tried changing the initial section
to a different format.
The following (unlinked) section copied its style.
Very confused...

That's section breaks, not page breaks! These are vey different in Word.
Have you looked at any of the other links I gave you? They will make it much easier for you to use Word.

Go back to Numbering Front Matter by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP. It is all in there.
To better understand headers and footers, see Header/Footer Settings Recap.
To better understand page numbers, see Page Numbers in Word 2007-2021 (365).

You added the same text this evening at the end of an older thread on section breaks and numbering problems. Please stick to one thread for your question.
