Insert a text box Office 2016

Hi. In my old 2007, I used insert shape and pick the rectangle on the first row. I would then simply type text into it. No problems then but now i am trying this in 2016. When I insert this now, I can not add text. I have to right click and add text. The text is invisible (white) and it is centred half way down with no option for align top. This is a massive step backwards.

Help.
