Default Copy/Paste with formatting

Hello. Sometimes I need to pull a page or 2 out a longer document and put into a document by itself. This selection will have 2 columns, a column and/or a section break.

Of course I want the formatting to come with the selection. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't and I can't remember the sequence I thought "Keep source formatting" in Advanced Options when pasting within or between documents would do it but not reliably for me. Is there anything special in Ctrl-C Ctrl-V?

Ken

The key to column formatting is a section break before and after. One starts the columns, the other ends them. Usually, these are continuous section breaks.

Ah, even to take the section break along from the page before into the new stand-alone document. Yes, that seems to have helped preserve the page formatting.

Columns are creatures of sections. When you change from one number of columns to another there is a section break. Likewise to change back.

Section breaks have other information as well, like headers and footer setup and content.

The general "rules" for sections are summarized in the article Working with sections.
