Default Placing Headings in multiple Columns

Hello,

I have been trying to wrap my head around styles with varying degrees of success. One thing I am trying now is to place a bunch of headings in columns. I am coming up with a Genre list and a lot of them have sub-genres. If I list all of these in one column the document gets unruly. I would like to place the subgenres in columns to save space but also be able to navigate them in the Navigation pane. I tried doing this by making a List Bullet based off a heading style but no matter what I try, when I make the list a heading, it will not list them in three columns that I am defining, but rather everything on the first column, even though I can see the ruler defining the columns. I tried inserting breaks but that did not help. I know I am doing something wrong. Any advice on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
