Default Saving Word 365 in .docx results in denial of access

I have Office 365 installed on my MacBook Air, OS 10.14.2.

I have 100 short articles saved in one folder. Reviewed all these a couple of days ago and on closing each one I 'saved' as most had small changes.
Each file (page) had it's own previously saved destination with prefix number, i.e. 201 Tiltle.docx. All 100 files are in a single folder.

Attempting to open one just now I receive a Grant File Access, additional permissions are required. On selecting the file file I 'grant access'.

This results in another dialog box, "MS Word cannot open the document: user does not access privileges.

What have I done wrong ?

Is it possible to effect a blanket change such that all these files will open on command ?

My Mac also runs Word for Mac 2011, I found I can open these files in the 2011 version however this is very time consuming.
