Let's back up a bit--not sure we have all the info.

1. The "file containing your writing". what kind of file is this? (i.e., why couldn't the file just be opened in Word?)

2. Do you still have this file, before it was imported into whatever app you downloaded from Microsoft? It might be easier to work from that file.
