Hi,
I'm using Office Professional Plus 2016 through my workplace, on an HP Pavillion x360 Convertible with Windows 10 Educational 64-bit build 15063, Machine running DirectX12 with Intel core-i3-7100 and 8gb RAM, 6gb page file. Western Digital WD10SPCX slim SATA II HDD. I started working on a document and saved it fine, no problems, 1 page of work. I continued working and relied on the autosave function for about an 2 hours, then trying to "Save As", Word crashed. Today, I have tried various recovery options. Firstly, it appears that most of the 4 pages of content done before clicking "Save As" is still there, in a succession of autosave files named both <filename>.asd and live recovery save of <filename>.usd. However, clicking on the recovered files in the recovery pane OR opening them using file>open and navigating to *.asd works fine, allows me to browse and edit the document, but when I come to save it, I can see the Save As dialog, enter a filename, change directory, but when I click on save the program Crashes to desktop. I have tried saving to other directories and saving other files to that directory (I can). I have tried:
The only thing that works is exporting the file to .doc. I have saved this .doc version of the file, and can edit it and work on it with minor loss of fidelity from the .docx. But if I try to save as .docx to restore the fidelity, I can see it tries to change equations back from images to equations, then it hangs. Weird. Any way I can save it as a .docx? I need to edit the equations as the images just aren't working. Thanks. PS. Seen a lot of "crash when saving older .doc but not .docx" posts, this is the other way around. Also, It doesn't hang BEFORE showing the explorer-type dialog for "Save As"; problem with explorer.exe? |

Is the presence of an equation the reason you are having problems? Are you able to create a new document that doesn't contain any equations and save that as docx? What about saving to docm format?
