I was nearing Page 400 in a novel when I got a line of small black squares across the page at the bottom of a paragraph. I couldn't remove this line. I tried and tried the various internet solutions but my word 2015 didn't have the format button I needed. That's one problem. In trying to solve it I somehow managed to get a thin line around the text on every page. It's now a default thing on every Word document. I selected my entire novel document and went to "borders" and selected "No Borders" but it didn't go away. Actually, I'm not sure it's a real border because the line is very thin. I'm desperate to fix this and get back to work. Thanks for any help you can offer. Don.
P.S. I've given up on the black rectangular squares line problem. I'll just push it to the end and leave it there when I submit the manuscript. Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 08-07-2018 at 08:40 AM. Reason: Mark as solved |

Re: the 'black rectangular squares line' problem, without actually seeing the problem content, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post showing some of these black rectangular squares? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.
Re: the 'thin line around the text on every page' problem, that's most likely due to you having checked the 'Show text boundaries' option. See under File|Options|Advanced>Show document content.

Thank you very much for your quick response and help. I was able to remove the thin lines around the texts by following your instructions.
I think I can explain the line of small black rectangles. It appears to be a longstanding problem related to writing three of these *** on a new line, followed by an "Enter". That's what I did and bang, the line appeared. Does this ring a bell? If you could suggest a solution for this line-of-tiny-black-squares problem I'll try it. (I've tried many proposed solutions from the net, but none of them worked. ) Thanks again Paul. |

That's just a paragraph border. Click on the affected range and choose Home|Paragraph>Borders icon dropdown>None.

Hi Paul. I clicked on borders icon and clicked None and then okay but nothing changed. Using word 2010.
Have classic and regular ribbons. Same result with both. *I had done this several times in past with nil result. |

Click on the dropdown next to the icon I've circled, then choose None.

Since the border is paragraph formatting, you have to be in the paragraph to which the border was applied for this to work.
Try selecting the paragraph above and below the line. Weird Lines and Borders Troublesome Lines - Borders by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP |
