Thank you very much for your quick response and help. I was able to remove the thin lines around the texts by following your instructions.

I think I can explain the line of small black rectangles. It appears to be a longstanding problem related to writing three of these *** on a new line, followed by an "Enter". That's what I did and bang, the line appeared. Does this ring a bell?

If you could suggest a solution for this line-of-tiny-black-squares problem I'll try it.

(I've tried many proposed solutions from the net, but none of them worked. )
