Default word 2015 squares and Border problem

I was nearing Page 400 in a novel when I got a line of small black squares across the page at the bottom of a paragraph. I couldn't remove this line. I tried and tried the various internet solutions but my word 2015 didn't have the format button I needed. That's one problem. In trying to solve it I somehow managed to get a thin line around the text on every page. It's now a default thing on every Word document. I selected my entire novel document and went to "borders" and selected "No Borders" but it didn't go away. Actually, I'm not sure it's a real border because the line is very thin. I'm desperate to fix this and get back to work. Thanks for any help you can offer. Don.

P.S. I've given up on the black rectangular squares line problem. I'll just push it to the end and leave it there when I submit the manuscript.
