what is the text string for page number in header/footer.


the string &[Page] of &[Pages] is not working in word 2007.

You would need to insert a pair of fields


{ PAGE } of { NUMPAGES }


Use Ctrl + F9 for the bracket pairs.

Its still not working. Is there anything special in insertion of this text string or we may write in direct in the footer

Did you use Ctrl-F9 to create the field braces (i.e. {})? You can't simply type them.

Well, if the answer's 'no', the solution is to do it the right way. This isn't rocket science - you can also insert the page numbering by opening the Header or Footer, then choosing Header & Footer Tools|Page Number>Bottom of Page>Page X of Y>Plain Number.
