Change Styles - Files \ New Document

Hi All,


I'm trying to understand how to manage styles displayed in the styles gallery when I open a new document.

I've updated Normal.dot with the styles I want.

I understand and have made changes within the "Styles Manager" - where I've set a number of styles to "always hidden".

This works for the most part, but there is one style called "strong" which I've hidden multiple times in the "Styles Manager" settings only to find when I open a new document its setting has returned to "displayed".

I suspect I'm missing something.
Any suggestions?

Ok, I got it figured out.
Its the Normal.dotm document I needed to change.
Now I've got the styles gallery I want for new docs. :-]

Yes you have the correct file.
However, what you likely want to be change is is not the hidden/not hidden property but rather whether it is shown in the [Quick] Styles Gallery. This is a checkbox on the Modify Style dialog.


Also, it is generally safer to make such modifications from within a blank document and save them to the templates rather than opening the Normal Template itself. While I open and change the normal template regularly, I hesitate to recommend it to anyone else because of the problems that can arise from improper editing of that template.
