Angry why doesn't ctrl+click on hyperlink open it without getting out of word

Up till yesterday, I used to press ctrl button and then click on a hyperlink to open it in the browser(google) without having to jump into the browser. The word remained open and the page was opened in the background and when I needed to read it I would go to the browser.

Since yesterday when I put the cursor on the link and click on ctrl, the "finger" cursor on the link turns into a line and nothing happenes.

I am very frustrated. I don't want to click on each hyperlink, then jumped into the browser, then have to get back to word again.
