Inserting Comments while proofreading

I am proofreading a book and MANY times when I click on "New Comment" in the Review panel, a sub-comment box pops up and I don't ever need that. It seems like it can happen if I just breathe on the computer. I don't know if this is a Word (2016) problem or a problem with my HP Laptop.
