Vertically-oriented caption box goes horizontal on printing
I have MS Word 2016 and I've take an image caption and rotated it to make better use of the space but when I export it to PDF, the caption gets rotated. Why does it rotate and how to prevent this?

I'm not sure how you rotated the caption originally.
Also unsure as to how you produced the pdf; that can matter as well. Before we get into that, try putting both the image and its caption in a two-column, one row floating table and use the table formatting command to rotate the text.
