Thumbs down FONT DISPLAY in EXISTING MS WORD DOCUMENT

I have an "interesting" issue with font display in MS Word 2013.

If I create a NEW document, any font on my system displays correctly and prints correctly. GOOD!

But I am trying to assist with the editing of a document created by someone else, and, even though I have deliberately saved it to a new file name, and the {.docx" format "native" to 2013), the fonts do NOT DISPLAY correctly on the screen, even though they do print as expected. I noticed this when I decided to change a font, and many of the choices did not correctly display. I created a NEW document, and the same fonts worked just fine.

So...NEW DOCUMENT --- fonts DISPLAY and PRINT correctly.

.......Document from another person --- fonts do NOT DISPLAY correctly, but DO PRINT correctly.

I am sure this a setting somewhere, and I can live with THIS document, but I would like to understand what the problem is for future reference.

Thank you.
