I seem to have an issue with inserting eps files into Word 2013 (365).
jpg or other formats are fine, and I've tried the same eps file on an old PC running Office 2002 (XP) and it's no problem. eps is among the graphic options on the insert dialogue box, but when I insert I don't get the usual low-res preview, just a box that says 'This image cannot currently be displayed'. Physically printing the doc does not work either - so it's not just a preview issue. Google searches suggest this might be some sort of security thing Microsoft added, but I don't seem to have the same registry structure as the posters to try amending it. I also can't seem to find a way to add any graphics filters - on the theory that the eps one might not be installed as a default. Does anyone know of a way around this? Cheers |

Microsoft has deprecated the Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) image filter as of the April 2017 Product Update, due to security vulnerabilities in EPS files that can be exploited via the EPS filter. The KB article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2479871 contains more information and instructions to re-enable the filter, if necessary.

Thanks for the reply!
I am running a 64bit PC, but in the reg I can only get as far as: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ Office\Common and the key to mod is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ Office\Common\Security\AllowLists\GraphicsFilterIm port Is it OK to add the rest of this myself, or would that cause an issue? |

More helpful security 'updates' from Microsoft which involve blocking features rather than solving the underlying problem I can live without I think.

Provided you do it correctly, adding the balance of the path to the key should be OK.

Did you have any luck? I added to Registry as shown in the forum - i also ended registry at Common. Matched the microsoft site exactly and it didn't work for me. Any help appreciated. I have been able insert all files except EPS which I need! Jim

I created the path as shown and added the registry keys as defined in the Microsoft article -- no luck. All along I've been able to insert any format except EPS which is the one I really need. Any thoughts? Much appreciate input. I am using a Surface Pro 2, Win 10 and Office 2013. until recently I had no issue. Jim

Sorry for late reply - I couldn't get it to work so moved on to other more pressing stuff. I don't often have to use eps files, so I'll just schedule getting frustrated by this until the next time I do!

I Can't import .EPS files into Word. Even after checking the box for .EPS converter. I use .EPS files very often, since they have the screen image of my Tektronix O'Scope. The last time I tried may have been 6 months ago, but then Word2013 could insert a picture file of the extension .EPS.

Hi Labguy
As macropod posted earlier, you can thank a microsoft update for this. I haven't found a way to get it to work and personally I'm pinning my hopes on microsoft coming to their senses and making eps disabling an option instead of compulsory. |

Hi, Its now mid June and despite modifying the registry as set out in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ Office\Common\Security\AllowLists\GraphicsFilterIm port I am not able to currently import eps files.
When we first applied the registry fix it worked just fine but recently we have not been able to import any eps files. These are critical to our work as they are a vector file and display accurately when printed which is more than can be said for raster images. Are there any other vector file formats that we could use or are there any other work arounds available. |

Yes, you could try EMF or WMF file formats. Both are metafile formats that support vector and raster content.
What software are you using to create the graphics? There may be other vector file formats that it can produce.
