I've performed plenty of searches which have garner not so much in return.
I have a document with a table of contents, but after all has been completed with the document, the automated TOC needs to be removed with the values left. I've tried the Ctrl + Shift + F9, but that still leaves the TOC box, it seems to just remove the hyperlinks. Can this be achieved where the TOC contents are left without any evidence a table of contents existed? EDIT: Is there another way besides this? https://support.office.com/en-us/art...4-64c6dfecaeca

First, the formatting comes from the TOC styles. Learn about them.
TOC Tips and Tricks by Suzanne Barnhill Second, the table of contents you are seeing is a field inside a container. Use a copy of your document and try the following: Remove the ToC. Insert a new ToC using the Insert Table of Contents command. 00 deleteme 2.png The screenshot shown is from Word 2010, but Word 2007 is similar. Generating a Table of Contents - Complex Documents Then you can use Ctrl+Shift+F9 to unlink the ToC field. It will not be in a container. |

Here's a simpler way:
1. Select the table of contents container and press Shift-F9. You should now see the table of contents field, which will look something like: { TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u } 2. Insert a space character before the table of contents heading 3. Select the table of contents heading and the entire table of contents field (not the space you added or the container) and copy them. 4. Delete the table of contents container 5. Paste the table of contents heading and field into the space where the table of contents container was. Done.

@Charles, Thank you, I got your method to work
----------------------------------------------------- @Paul, Thank you also, I also got your method to work So, after completing the steps in post #3, the TOC is pasted as appearing like it's hyperlinked, but it actually isn't. If I then use Ctrl + Shift + F9, the hyperlinks go away, but the left side numbers show up as underlined. Could this have to do with the styles? I am testing this at home and my styles at home are not setup like I have them at work. At home, I can not chose the default "Book Title" style and it appears without the underline. Also, one last question, is there a way to get two spaces between the paragraph numbers in the TOC and the beginning of the title for that paragraph? I know, two spaces is archaic, but guaranteed, where I work they will not accept this with only one space between the paragraph number and the paragraph title. |

![]() Quote:
The normal method is to have a specific tab spacing between the number and heading. A 'two space' setting is meaningless with proportional fonts, especially once justification comes into play. Still, if that's what you want, you should modify the heading Styles accordingly.

By the way, I usually set up my ToC using the Insert Table of Contents command rather than one of the ones in a container. The bare field is much more responsive.
