Default Save as PDF or XPS get unexpected error

I've been using this add-in to save docs as PDFs forever. Some time ago, it started failing periodically.

This page says to disable a fix, but I couldn't find a way to make do that. It says it's for Word 2010, but also works for 2007, which is what I have. I couldn't figure out how to

This page has a bunch of solutions most of which involve patches to system modules that I am not comfortable making.
