Continual problems when saving word documents as .docx

For some time have had the following problem,

the 'save' and 'save as' options to save as a .docx file shows progress bar reaching about 75% when another screen pops up requesting another 'save'*operation. Doing this brings another box saying 'Error has accord while saving'. A circle follows.

Have tried repairing Office 365 through the Control Panel, both quick and full repair, but there is no improvement. Possible to save document as a .pdf file but, of course, opening it again in Word changes the font and photo positions.

In seeking a solution, have tried to boot in safe mode but am told win word/safe file does not exist.

Would appreciate some help please. Am running W7Pro
