I imported a JPEG into a Word 2013 doc. I drew a couple of boxes around areas in the figure I wanted to reference. How do I group the figure and the boxes together?

I would do this by using a Drawing Canvas and putting everything inside that.

To create a drawing canvas, go to Insert > Shapes > New Drawing Canvas

Very nice and very convenient. I use this to put hints in my document. The canvas includes a picture of a light bulb followed by a text box with hint. The problem is that I can't figure out how to go in and edit the text. This is the same problem I had with Paint when I was using that to import a picture. Once I entered the arrow or text, I couldn't modify it. Is there a way to edit the canvas text without deleting and re-entering the text?

I would normally do a hints item as you describe with a two column table that has no borders. This allows me to lay it out faster and minimise the complexity of the document.

But text inside a drawing canvas is still editable. Is it a text box inside the canvas that you are trying to edit?

Yes, the text is in a text box. Is there a better way to enter text in a canvas? I'll try the two columns approach for future docs. Good tip.
