Default Start any Windows application (.exe) from WinWord

How can I initiate a locally located exe-file from a doc-file in MS Word so that it differs from the hyperlink solution. Anyone who should know the answere please let me know.

In details:

In winword I would like to start a sound player which plays any sound file from timestamp to timestamp. The timestamps in sound file correspond to a text slice in winword file. The sound file and the timestamps are parameters for the player. One solution for this problem is the hyperlink. But text editing of hyperlink in winword is difficult. Please send me some words about other solutions.

Actually, it's quite easy, via Edit|Hyperlink or via Alt-F9 (to expose the field codes) and editing in the document directly, then pressing Alt-F9 again to restore the display, followed by F9 to update the link.

Other than that, you'd need to embed the relevant portion of the sound file in the document or devise a means of using a macro to pass the relevant parameters to the music player as command-line parameters.
