Hi All,
I have used Word for a while now, but have never used Field Codes or such things as automating parts of a document. in this case I am creating a Report Template and am trying to set up my front sheet that will have the document Title on it and what I an trying to achieve is that when this title is entered then the title will automatically populate a cell in a table that is in the header of each page. I think it is field codes that I use but this is where I am lost. Any help will be appreciated |

In that case, format the Title paragraph with a Style used nowhere else, then use a STYLEREF field in the page header to reference that Style. See: StyleRef Field.

I agree that using a character style and the StyleRef field is the approach I would use. Welcome to the world of fields. Paul has several excellent tutorials on them here:
Remember that to view field codes, you can use Alt+F9 to toggle their display. Remember to toggle back to field code results. Here is a compendium of other ways to replicate information in a document. Repeating Data (Populating Multiple Like Fields) My current favorite is using a document property content control (not field) so that a change made anywhere in a document is reflected in the other document properties. If you go to that article, search for document property. The article is long and very much worth reading. |
