Default Saving word document to .doc

I have a resume that was done on word 2010, and I'm trying to save it to a .doc. However the column format changes when I save it to the older version. Is there a way to save this without typing the whole resume again?

Layout changes between the .docx and .doc versions are common, consequently some reformatting may be required. Even then, merely changing printer drivers can affect the layout with either document format, so you can't be sure a document will be viewed by anyone else with exactly the same format as you see. If you need to preserve the formatting across all platforms, save a copy as a PDF and distribute that.

I agree that .pdf format is better for distribution. It is the only way you can be sure of what your recipient will see.
