I have a lengthy document (multi-level numbering) that has cross-references throughout to different clauses in the document as well as to schedules at the back of the document. [Schedule 1.1(a) is cross-referenced to clause 1.1(a).] Linking within body works fine so far. (Note. I am only using the schedule number not the schedule description in the body of the document.)
My problem is with cross-referencing the schedules to the TOC. In this case, I want both the schedule no. and schedule description. (Schedule 1.1(a) Accounts Receivable) to appear in the TOC. Is there any kind of switch or workaround (not Alt + Shift + O) to make all the references update without any manual manipulation? After I set this document up properly, other operators with little formatting expertise will be editing. I'm using Word 2007. |

If you have added numbering to heading styles, both the number and text will appear in the table of contents without any further effort.
You do have to update the TOC manually, by clicking inside it and pressing F9; be sure to choose the option to update the whole table (if Word asks).

No numbering in Schedule (heading style). Within the title "Schedule 1.1(a)", the "1.1(a)" text is a cross-reference to clause 1.1(a).

Hmm, which kind of paragraph contain these references? There is no easy way to collect cross-references into a "table of references," if that is what you are trying to do.

The paragraph style is normal. Level 1 (Article 1) is attached to Heading 1, Level 2 (1.1) is attached to Heading 2. As the paragraph moves (renumbers), the schedule renumbers. I know I can cross reference so that the schedule number and schedule name appear in the body of the text. However, we're looking for only the schedule number to appear in the body but both the number and the title to appear in the TOC. I don't want to use bookmarks or marked text.
If it is not possible, that's fine. Just need to know if there is any point in further research. |

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are trying to accomplish. Could you perhaps give a specific example?
