Hello
From Word 2013> options> Customize Ribbon> Keyboard shortcuts> 'Common Symbols' category, I selected 'No-Width Optional Break' and assigned 'Ctrl+Space' for it. After clicking 'Ctrl+Space' when typing, it changes the font and size of font instead applying essential assignment which is defined for it. Who has idea about it? Why this occurs? Mohsen |

Hitting Ctrl-Space removes all direct formatting from the selected text. Consequently, if your content doesn't respect the underlying paragraph Style, the font will change.

I did it (assigning Ctrl+Space as No-Width Optional Break) in Word 2007 & 2003 and it was done correctly as it was defined. But in Word 2013 it works as I said. How can I remove default assignment of 'Ctrl+Space' and assign it for 'No-Width Optional Break'?

Your description suggests you haven't, in fact, re-assigned Ctrl+Space to the 'No-Width Optional Break' insertion. If you go to Insert|Symbol>No-Width Optional Break>Shortcut Key, do you now see Ctrl+Space assigned to the 'No-Width Optional Break'?

Yes I see. It seems to accept the assignment without any problem. Look. If you try to assign 'Shift+Space' for 'No-Width Optional Break', Word does not accept it, but about Ctrl+Space, it seems to be accepted.

I didn't ask whether it 'seems' to accept the assignment. I asked:

Yes, I see, as photo attached shows.

If the Ctrl+Space sequence continues to remove character formatting, which is its default behaviour, that could be because:
• it cannot be re-assigned; • re-assigning doesn't stop the default behaviour; or • your Office installation is faulty. Only the last of these can be remedied. You could try repairing the Office installation (via Start > Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change) to see if that makes any difference.
