![]() Hello, I'd like to type diacritic letters. I need letters with a ^ above it but the sign has to be turned around by 180°. I found a font for that, but when I select it I can only type normal leters and some not so rare signs. http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/p...=CharisSILfont Thank you so much. |

See: https://support.office.com/en-US/art...1-d60407d13c35. Presumably Macs are similar, except that you'd use Cmd instead of Ctrl. Alternatively, you can insert the characters via Insert|Symbol.

Thanks, but these are the "normal" signs.
I need the "carret" turned arround, like the s (big) and c (small) here: Leo Janáček I can not just copy the diacritic letters from the internet and put them in. I installed CharisSil, which is said of to have the signs/letters, but it doesn't work. Thanks. |

The character over the letter you're referring to is a breve. Although MS doesn't provide keyboard shortcuts for those, you can still insert characters with them via Insert|Symbol (without the need for the CharisSil font) and you can assign your own keyboard shortcuts for them. You can also create them via their Unicode escape sequences (e.g. 0103, Alt-x creates ă).
Using Insert|Symbol, you will find the characters with breves in the Latin Extended-A character sub-set.

Hm, when I type alt+x I get ≈
when I go to insert -> symbols I can choose out of a limited number of fonts and none of them has the signs. (see picture 4) The first is "normal text", which I assume is, what is selected out of the endless numbers of fonts. But I don't have "Latin-A extended". The Fonts beginning with "L" are "letter gothic std". (see picture 5). I don't know how to use unicode. |

I did not say to simply type Alt-x. I said 0103, Alt-x. In other words, type 0103 then press Alt-x.
I also did not refer to a particular font, but to the Latin Extended-A character sub-set! That subset is available in most fonts.

Sorry!
I know I am stupid, but when I type 0103 and then press alt+x I get 0103≈ Sorry about misunderstanding the term "Latin Extended-A character sub-set". I now understand you mean: of the latin alphabet (which we use in the western world), there is an extended subset to each letter. But for my A I have no turned around ^ Also most of those extended subsets you refer to as being present in most every font are the vocals plus a "spanish" n and a "c" with a tiny "(" under it. Look at my attached picture and you will know what I mean. This is when I select "times" (the font times) from the left window and then go to insert->special characters. There are all sorts of "a", but not the one I need (in fact the symbols look like letters common for french, spanish and scandinavian languages). |
