![]() Why not simply insert your Notes/Endnotes heading directly into the document with a 'Next Page' Section break either side of the heading and immediately before the first endnote? You can use Word's 'suppress endnotes' option in the page layout tools to force the endnotes to appear after the heading.

I'm not sure I understand...I want the heading on the same page as the endnotes themselves. I don't see how your proposal gets them both on the same page.
I'm currently using 'supress endnotes' to get the endnotes down to roughly where I want them in the document, but there seems to be no way to get the heading on the same page as the end notes, while retaining the heading's role in the table of contents. |

But that's exactly what the process I described achieves! Indeed, I have a document with exactly that configuration. See attached extract.
