Actually it can be done manually, but I search for a solution in which Word do all (even updating it) like what Index or ToC are done with Word itself.

The fact that the task can be done manually suggests that it can also be automated in code, but it doesn't mean that writing the code is uncomplicated, as Charles and Paul have already said.
