Here's a puzzler that appears to be a problem on only one machine; not on mine but on a colleague's. I have 2013, he has 2010.



We'd like to be able to use the service mark symbol regularly in proposals. We use a custom template with the primary paragraph text style in Arial; we also have heading and table styles in Arial. All styles are custom in the template.

Typing 2120 followed by Alt+X inserts the symbol, but in MS Gothic. I can convert mine to Calibri but not Arial; so can my colleague, but when applying a paragraph style to it, it reverts to Gothic. We would be happy with the Calibri; it's close enough.

My web search indicates that the symbol should be in Unicode Arial; apparently that's not MS's Arial; the symbol does not appear in the font character map.

The further twist, is that inserting it as an autotext works fine for me, but even when he selects his in its Calibri manifestation and creates an autext, the autotext insertion comes in as Gothic.

I have looked through the options settings in Advanced and Autocorrect tabs, but nothing appears to be amiss, so I am stumped as to the cause of his machine's Gothic fixation. I mean, he's really a not a bad guy, and he doesn't dress all in black...

Any ideas from those of you who know more about what happens behind the curtain in Word?
