Is there a way to teach Word 2011 that what it thinks is a grammatical error is actually not? If not, what can I do to reduce the number of false positives?

No. The grammar checker is only a guide to potential problems. Frankly, those who can make the best use of a grammar checker are those whose grammatical knowledge is such that they don't need it.
