Your description suggests you've hidden the text. Does it re-appear if you click on the ¶ symbol on the Ribbon's Home tab? If so, it's hidden. To unhide all content, use Ctrl-A, then Alt-H, F, N to open the font dialogue and make sure the 'Hidden' option is neither checked nor shaded.
