Exclamation Tried Your Suggestions - Didn't Work

Thank you for trying to help me. When I looked at the Reveal Formatting, everything was set as I expected. The only thing I am noticing is it is picking up my book formatting page size. But I'm okay with that.

Checked the boxes as you suggested for distinguish style source and showing all formatting marks. I expanded the one area that I could.

Tried Home - then under Select used drop down to Select Objects. No surprises.

Started typing in doc - again. Finished first line. Wanted to go to first paragraph to start typing - it's back to dropping me to like where a footer should be.

Very frustrating!

There's something this is trying to throw this either every four lines - OR - to the bottom. And it is set for single line spacing ant 11 pt Arial still.

Smile Found the answer - I think...

Sue's Word Tips saved the day!

I found this online after some digging....

She talks about how to create, change, and use templates. I just used her "change" directions and went in and changed the Normal template which had somehow ended up as a .dotm and reset the information, then saved the new version. As long as I create documents using that it seems to so far be functioning okay.

She has awesome info on that website for anyone else in a panic.

Thanks Neil for trying to help.

First, the Normal template MUST be a dotm template in the ribbon versions of Word. This is not optional.
Templates in Microsoft Word

The second thing is that your original problem likely came from vertically justified alignment in your template.
Alignment / Justification of Text in Microsoft Word

The normal template should seldom be your basis for new documents. You should have custom templates for most of the things you do and the normal template acts more like a scratch pad to hold resources.

well that's a clue! It seems to indicate that the document was created by some type of Book Title Page Template ... and perhaps the template is still attached to the document.

A title page template might have an area near the top for the title, an area near the center for the author's name, and an area at the problem for the publisher's name and year of publication. It would be jimmied so you could not type in the white-space area between those predetermined locations. It could also have key-bindings to hijack the Enter key and macros as well.

I was hoping if you clicked on Select Objects it might make an invisible image or table show up but it was worth a try.

I guess the next step would be to look on the Developer Tab, Templates Group, and click on Document Template to open the Templates and Add-ins dialog box. The text box at the top would show the path and name of the template currently in use for your document.
