Hi! I have a problem which I hope someone here can solve!
I am currently writing my University dissertation in Word 2007, and as usual for my department I have to double-space my work. I know how to do this in Word but currently when I highlight a paragraph to double space and apply the change in the paragraph option, it applies the new paragraph spacing to every part of the document and not just the part of the text I highlighted. I have asked numerous people to help fix this problem but they can't seem to find any solution whatsoever, and I have no idea why this is even happening anyway! If anyone has any ideas to help fix this it would be really appreciated! Thanks! |

That is most likely the result of you having constructed your text in ONE style. If you are not familiar with styles, here is a link that may help you:
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/concepts/styles.html A short answer to your question would be to change the style to the paragraph that you want double-spaced (although, that will just delay your learning process). |

Thanks for the reply!
I don't think it's a style issue as even when I try to change a certain paragraph into a certain type of style the others persist and do exactly the same thing. It seems any document I try to format in my copy of word does exactly the same thing as this screenshot shows. http://i.imgur.com/tnbgh.png The highlighted text is the part I attempted to double space, but as you can see the rest of the document also became double-spaced. I've tried starting new documents in Libre Office and they do exactly the same thing so I am starting to wonder if this is a computer issue rather than an issue with Word. |

I know virtually nothing about Libre Office, but since its word processor is designed to mimic Word, it wouldn't surprise me. I just posted that link a few minutes ago; have you actually read through the article. It describes exactly the behavior you are seeing.

Just tried some of the stuff the article linked to here http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styl...ifyastyle.html And it seems to work so thanks! I'm not the most technically minded individual so it did confuse me slightly initially but thanks for the advice!
