Default DocVariable formatting and the ability to truncate a string.

I have a document template with several DocVariables. A couple of these fields need to be limited as far as their length so that they don't spill over to the next line.

Is there a way to set the format of my DocVariable so that only a certain number of characters get inserted into the field? Something similar to the "Left" function in Excel?

I know I can shorten the length of the data before I update the fields in my document templates, I'm just curious if I can control this with my DocVariables.

Thanks.
