Question Ability to create layouts in word

Hi,
I am a graphic designer and I have only ever used word to make basic text documents. I know you can add images, headers, styles and other visual elements to a word document, however I am not sure of the extent to which you can use word to create visual layouts with a number of images and sections of text. I usually work with adobe programs to create these layouts however I have been asked to use word to create them. I'm not sure if what I am asking is clear but if anyone has used word to create flashy layouts could you let me know what sort of techniques you can use apart from just copying and pasting images in and doing text wraps?
Thanks.
