Default document appears in different language

New to this forum and didn't find a thread for this.
Opened an old document written in Word 2010, but it appears in an unknown language - looks like Greek? The document was typed by me in English. Have tried to figure out Word translation features, but no success. Don't know why language changed. Recommendations? Thank You!

You're talking character set, not language, right? Just to find out a bit more, try selecting a few lines of strangeness and:
  • pressing ctrl + spacebar to clear any accidental formatting
  • copy/pasting them in to a text editor

eNGINe,

Thanks for responding!

I just tried to copy a sample to show you, but it pasted here in English with no problem. So the document still exists as English but is still showing up looking like a Greek style language when I bring it up in Word

Ctrl+Spacebar didn't seem to do anything.

I don't have a text editor other than Word

  1. I'd feel s-o-o restricted without a plain-text editor – apart from anything else, it's often a very good thing to focus on content rather than formatting. Try Notepad++, or if you're ready for a paradigm shift go straight for Vim
  2. While you're still in Word, the fact that ctrl + spacebar didn't do anything suggests a gremlin in the paragraph style. The screenshot shows the standard Lorum ipsum:
    • first, with a local override to display it with the Windows Symbols font – looks Greek, indeed, but isn't
    • second, after selecting the paragraph and using ctrl + spacebar to clear the override and display the paragraph in the default font for the style
So my guess would still be, either there's a local font override applied or the style definition for the affected paragraph(s) has mysteriously acquired Symbol as its font. The latter would explain why ctrl+spacebar does nothing you can see.

Thanks, eNGINe

I'll play around with it tonight with your suggestions. (will get a text editor as you suggest)
Best Regards
