Smile Force User to Save As

Hi

I am designing a template, in which i want to force the user to save a copy of the template before they actualy begin.

Is there a way to do this?

once the document is open, a dialog box with save as box comes up first

it means they will always have a copy of the template and they are saving a copy each time.

The users i am working with are not fully technical minded, so i am trying to make it as easy as possible for them.

If the template is made read-only then it will not be possible to save it other than in its original form. Any modifications/additions will have to be saved under a different name.
Does this provide the solution you want?

Hi

I already have the document locked so that the users are limited to the formatting, so if i change the locked, it might ruin the formatting locking.

regards

Hi LesleyAnne
If you save your template as a User Defined Template then when the user clicks on File - New and selects the new template then only a copy of the template will open.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

If you are using an actual template (*.dotx) file, users will be presented with an unnamed document when they double-click the template (or locate it via Office button | New). On the first save, the Save As dialog box will be displayed, letting users specify a document name.

Some people use the word 'template' to mean a document which has prearranged features to save these having to be inserted every time, e.g. a document pre-populated with 'Dear ' and 'Yours faithfully' etc. It's not a template as Microsoft would have it, but it is a template of sorts. Is yours one of these?
