The purpose for the method I sought is to allow a user who otfen creates work instructions to easily include a sign-off box to the left of the primary step numbers. I appreciate that thee are other ways to reach the same result, but I was hoping to take advantage of Word's automated numbering. Thanks again for your time, Stefan.
