Hi!
Help needed for latest version of Microsoft Word (Office) for Mac I am trying to find out a simple way of italicising a word throughout an entire word document. For instance, if I have written the word Othello in plain text 50 times in a document, I am looking for a simple way of making that into Othello without having to do it manually each and every time. I am sure that this questions has been answered before on this forum. I could, however, not find it in first glance. I hope somebody is able to help. :-) |

Use the Replace function. Look for the word "Othello." Replace with the word "Othello" in Italics.
You may have to click on the More button to access formatting. I would recommend using the Emphasis style rather than Italic. It is the same result but not direct formatting. |

The Emphasis style is a built-in character style, which is Italics by default.
I don't have the Mac version but I'm sure the option for fonts and styles in Replace is there. Get the Replace dialog up and look for a More button; click on it. Look for the Format button. Clicking on it should give you choices including "Font" and "Style." You would use Font in the Replace box to give you Italics. Instead I am suggesting using Style and selecting the Emphasis style. By default this is Italics. Doing this gives you the option of later changing how you want the word emphasized, i.e. a different color or underlining or even a different font, by modifying the style in your document. |

… or create your own character-style called playTitle (for example) to use on all play titles – you can see my underlying assumption here <g> That way, if you later decide you'd prefer small caps for titles you only have to change one style and the default Emphasis is still available.
