Word-Embedded documents-links best practice

Hi
Seeking some guidance....before i wasted alot of time trying to do something word cant...

I have a main word document
within this document i have multiple embedded word documents (as objects)
within some of these documents i wish to link back to a single embedded work document in the main document

I cant see the woods from the trees on this one and looking for some guidance?
