I thought that the whole reason for using bookmarks is that you can have selected headings included within a separate TOC that doesn't appear in other TOCs as they don't pick up the bookmark name.

Problem is, this bookmarked TOC is within the range of the main TOC i.e. the bookmarked range is on page 280-285 (in the middle or thereabouts of the document) - so do I have to bookmark text/headings either side of this section with the same name. If that makes sense...

• two bookmarks (one for each side of the inserted range) - and two TOCs (one for each bookmarked range). If your inserted content is to have its own TOC, that too will need its own bookmark. Obviously, this gets more complicated as you add more portions requiring their separate TOCs; or
• use one set of heading Styles for the existing content and a different set of Styles (heading or otherwise) for the new content.
