Here's a couple of screenshots to clarify the question. WYS may well be WYG, but it's not What You Asked For <g> 1. shows the selection buttons before I click on "top border", 2. shows how Word enthusiastically reinterprets this as "all borders". The second screenshot (touched up with a graphics editor) shows the top border effect I'm trying for.

Hi
The only way to achieve this is to insert a continuous Section Break both before and after the heading. Then apply a top border to the paragraph. Then reduce the margin in that Section only to the width of the paragraph. Hope this helps. Good luck. Tony |

Well, that's certainly an interesting idea! but not one I'll be putting to the test. I'll just add another entry to the "Word knows better" list ;-}

The other option you have is to just "draw" a line over each heading as required. This is achieved by using Insert - Shapes - Lines and the draw a line where you want it. Hope this helps. Tony |
