Problem with captions for equations and figures in my Ph.D thesis.
Ok, so here is my situation. I am labeling all of the equations, figures, and tables in my thesis. It is nearly 300 page long and I am required to have a list of figures and tables, so there would be no way to do that without this Word feature.
This is the equation I want to label.  The Caption looks correct, it should be Equation 1.1.  But then it inserts 3.1.  This is happening for equations, figures, and tables. Please help!

The caption number is using 'chapter' formatting, tied to a particular heading. Evidently, whatever heading style you have it tied to has been used twice before.
