I have Heading 1 & Heading 2 automatic TOC.
I want to make it Heading 1, 2, 3 . How do I flip all Heading 2 --> Heading 3. How do I change TOC to include Heading 3? Thanks. |

Word's default TOC format is to include Heading Styles 1-3. If you've only inserted the default TOC field, then the only reasons it wouldn't be showing Heading 3 are:
• You haven't used Heading 3; or • You haven't updated the TOC (eg via a Print Preview) since adding the Heading 3 content.

I don't have any Heading 3 now.
I want to change all Heading 2-s (about 100) to Heading 3. How do I do that? Following that, I will insert Heading 2-s. |

You can use Find/Replace, with the Styles as the replacement parameters. Click on 'More' in the Find/replace dialogue, then for both the Find and Replace options, use Format > Style and choose the appropriate Style names.

Thanks Paul.
That worked, but caused huge problems with TOC and headers. I had to reverse it. Looks like manual changing is the best. |

You could, of course, use Find/Replace selectively rather than simply using the 'Replace All' option.

Thanks Paul. I am OK now. I started adding Heading 3-s and changing some Heading 2-s.
The TOC picked it up automatically. It is a beauty. |
