Default Index with unwanted words and a picture

So I have a nice document with a nice index. I put some stuff in the pages before the index and don't use any pre-made headings or such. When I'm updating the index some of the words from these pages and a picture show up in my index. I don't want it there, but I don't know how to stop it from comming in my index.

Help, please.

One part I pasted in though, so the people who originally made that may have done something weird with it.

My initial guess is that you have your picture keyed to one of the "Heading" styles that create the TOC. If that is the case, simply change the style of the picture/text to the same style that you use for the text in the body of your document (i.e., Body Text). Then update the index (picture and unwanted text should be removed).

I thought that was the case as well, but the picture and text is written in the first "heading style", called "normal" (in norwegian at least). So is the main text for the rest of the document. The headings that I have made my self is in a "home made" style.

I tried change some of the text to a "heading style" number two, and that helped. If I try this with the other unwanted text part and the picture however the text and picture jump out of its box. This is a premade front page from school, so I can't really go and change the look of it. Though it is tempting.

Hi Verdande,

I believe you're referring to what Word calls a Table of Contents, not an Index. Be that as it may, anything that appears there does so because it's paragraph is formatted in one of the Styles you're using for the Table of Contents. You say:
Quote:

Word's Heading Styles and Normal Style are quite different. Anything with a Heading Style attached is liable to appear in the Table of Contents, even if the formatting of that paragraph has been chenged to look like the 'Normal' Style.
